Description

The model used is a fantastic specimen of white Scolecite spray formation from Nashik District, Maharashtra, India

It is a giant specimen, measuring 18,5 x 20 x 23 cm.

Scolecite commonly occurs as sprays of thin, prismatic needles, frequently flattened on one side, with slanted terminations and striated parallel to the length of the needles.

Scolecite is a member of the zeolite group. It was described in 1813, and named from the Greek word, σκώληξ (sko-lecks) = "worm" because of its reaction to the blowpipe flame.
