It is located the rain forest highland (altitude of 2,200-2,700 m.) in the Porgera Valley.

Porgera was initially an underground operation, with open-pit mining becoming increasingly important from 1993 onwards. It is the second largest mine in Papua New Guinea and is regarded as one of the world's top ten producing gold mines.

Fun fact:
Gold is very heavy. If fact the density is 19,3. And almost every Hollywood movie you see where they rob gold, they miss this fact. Gold and silver has been money for thousands of years, and they have played an important role in the world's development. It has also been important in religion, and the list goes on and on. Just by looking at it and holding it you understand its value.
